181. Jesus is in the Father
All Christians believe Jesus when He said, “I and the Father are one… the Father is in me, and I in the Father.” (John 10:30, 38b)
182. The Narrow Gate
All Christians believe that the door or gate is narrow, “and restricted is the way that leads to life! Few are those who find it.” (Matthew 7:13-14 cf. Luke 13:23-24)
183. Weeping and Gnashing
All Christians believe that some will be shut out of the kingdom through no fault but their own, because they chose to remain workers of iniquity rather than repent. “He will say, 'I tell you, I don't know where you come from. Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity.' There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the prophets, in the Kingdom of God, and yourselves being thrown outside.” (Luke 13:27-28)
184. The Great Reversal
All Christians believe that in the kingdom of God there will be a great reversal because, “there are some who are last who will be first, and there are some who are first who will be last.” (Luke 13:30 cf. Matthew 19:30; Mark 10:31)
185. Insulting Political/Religious Leaders
All Christians agree that Jesus was not afraid to insult political and religious leaders. He called Herod a fox or vixen (Luke 13:32) and the Pharisees a brood of vipers, a particularly dangerous snake (Matthew 12:34).
186. Like Chicks
All Christians agree that Jesus’ attitude was like that of a mother hen. Regarding Jerusalem He said, “How often I would have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you would not!” (Matthew 23:37 cf. Luke 13:34)
187. Sheep, Children and Oxen
All Christians agree that Jesus was right to heal on the Sabbath, as he asked, “Which of you, if your son or an ox fell into a well, wouldn't immediately pull him out on a Sabbath day?” (Luke 14:5) and “What man is there among you, who has one sheep, and if this one falls into a pit on the Sabbath day, won't he grab on to it, and lift it out?” (Matthew 12:11)
188. Humility
All Christians agree that humility is better than self-exaltation. “For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.” (Luke 14:11)
189. Befriending the Afflicted
All Christians believe that a righteous person considers those who are troubled in life. So, “when you make a feast, ask the poor, the maimed, the lame, or the blind; and you will be blessed, because they don't have the resources to repay you. For you will be repaid in the resurrection of the righteous.” (Luke 14:13-14)
190. The Marriage Feast
All Christians believe that many people make excuses as to why they won’t accept God’s invitation, and because of this “those who were invited weren't worthy.” (Matthew 22:8) So, He told His servant to “bring in the poor, maimed, blind, and lame.” (Luke 14:21)
